FANTÔMES 2020

[EN] Fantômes / Ghosts are large-scale, handmade sculptures made out of recycled paper and wool spun in my native village in Romania. Light, flexible, and resistant truss structures, the Ghosts are a family of unique sculptures which represent all the invisible presences that accompany us and shape our daily existence. The geometry and rigor of these structures lie in contrast to the flexibility of the materials they are made of. I explore and exploit the physical properties of these materials – the wool’s elasticity, the paper’s weightlessness. Scattered on the floor, hanging on walls or from the ceiling, the form of these sculptures is determined by their weight and by gravity. These structures are highly personal artifacts which constitute the background of several of my autobiographical performances. These Ghosts were created during an artist residency which was offered to me by L’Appart Fitness Grandclément between May and November 2020.

[FR] Les Fantômes sont des sculptures géométriques de grande taille réalisées à la main en papier recyclé et fil en laine tissé dans mon village natal en Roumanie. Ces structures en treillis sont très légères, flexibles et résistantes, et représentent les présences invisibles qui nous accompagnent et qui transforment nos existences. La géométrie et la rigueur de ces structures semblent déformés par l’absence de rigidité des matériaux dont j’explore et j’exploite les propriété physiques - élasticité de la laine, impondérabilité du papier. Éparpillées par terre, accrochés au mur ou au plafond, la forme de ces structures est déterminée par la pesanteur. Le hasard est accepté et l'incertitude est implicite, dès lors que le changement de place produira une autre configuration de ces formes géométriques. Ces sculptures revêtent aussi des aspects très personnels, car elles constituent le décor de plusieurs de mes performances autobiographiques. Ces Fantômes ont été réalisées pendant une résidence d’artiste qui m’a été offerte par L’Appart Fitness Grandclément entre mai et novembre 2020.
