BLACKBIRD 2020

[EN] Blackbird is a dance performance in which the social act of conversation becomes a gestural score which reinvents the idea of exchange while emphasing the impossibility of fully understanding what another person is saying. The two performers use movements from different choreographic languages in order to underline the irreconcilable essence of communication. Sylvain Manet’s clarinet score was inspired by the song of the blackbird, which is capable of imitating other bird species’ vocalisations. This project benefited from an artist residency at the Le Complexe Theatre in Lyon, France (May-June 2021).

[FR] Dans la performance Blackbird, l’acte social de la conversation se mue en une partition gestuelle qui réinvente l’idée d’échange, en mettant en exergue l’impossibilité de maîtriser pleinement les paramètres du geste improvisé. Les deux performeurs utilisent des mouvements issus de langages chorégraphiques différents, pour s’intéresser à l’essence irréconciliable de la communication. Blackbird s’applique aussi à l’univers des sons, par l’intermédiaire d’une composition à la clarinette du musicien Sylvain Manet. Celui-ci a élaboré une partition inspirée du chant du merle, qui est capable d’imiter les vocalisations d’autres espèces d’oiseaux. Ce projet a bénéficié d'une résidence de création au théâtre Le Complexe de Lyon (mai-juin 2021).
